HKBU receives HK$15 million donation from Mr. Kam Yuen to establish a centre for NeuroRegeneration Sciences

HKBU recently received a donation pledge of HK$15 million from Mr. Kam Yuen, Chairman of Golden Meditech Holdings Limited, for the establishment of the Golden Meditech Centre for NeuroRegeneration Sciences at HKBU in support of the research relevant to autologous neural stem cell therapy and other cell therapy that can potentially treat neurodegenerative and other incurable diseases.

An agreement signing ceremony was held on 20 November 2018. It was officiated by Mr. Kam Yuen, Mr. Cheng Yan Kee, BBS, JP, Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU; Dr. Kennedy Wong, BBS, JP, Chairman of the HKBU Foundation; Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research and Development); and Professor Zhang Jianhua, Dean of Science. HKBU representatives attending the ceremony included Professor Ken Yung, Executive Associate Dean of Graduate School and Professor of the Department of Biology; Dr. Zhang Shiqing, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow of the Department of Biology; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation.

Dr. Kennedy Wong expressed his deep gratitude to Mr. Kam Yuen for his generous support for the University. He commended that Mr. Kam is a visionary entrepreneur and indeed a role model for business leaders. Under his able leadership, Golden Meditech has become a leading integrated healthcare enterprise in the healthcare industry in Mainland China. It has established dominant positions in the healthcare services and medical devices market segments within the industry. Mr. Cheng Yan Kee hoped Mr. Kam would continue his support for the University’s research development, so as to build HKBU into a leading research-led liberal arts University in Asia for the world.
